Antique African Bridal Currency / Money

Description

Set of 9 antique African Bridal Currency. Including 7 arm, leg and neck rings currency/money called Mitako. Made in both the upper and lower Congo they were both worn as decoration and used in a barter economy. They were made of brass from 10" to 4.5" from ca1880s to early 1900s. Reportedly 1 Mitako was worth 10 cowrie shells and a chicken was worth 10. The size was reduced over time to make smaller and smaller barter purchases possible.
Sizes range 5" across to 2 3/4"
Set of 2 ancient Manillas that were made in Portugal and England and brought to Africa as currency from the 1700s to the 1900s.
Size approximately 3" x 3 1/4"
They are old and rusty, as collected.
